The journey that food goes on from production to table is called the food supply chain. Nowadays, food is transported over longer distances across continents. This means end consumers are disconnected from the source and the supply chain becomes longer and more fragmented. When learning about food waste and loss it is essential to understand where the food originally comes from.

Guide

Let the students read the article and discuss in groups what happens in the different stages. Ask them to select two or more of their favourite food items, research their journey through the whole food supply chain and present their findings in class.
